My father, a pastor in the Free Methodist denomination, has long believed that the church is to be a hospital rather than the monastery it has turned into. It should be the place where people can go and find refuge and caring. Unfortunately, as the ad depicts, all too often the church is a place that would rather gather it's "righteous robes" around itself and remove the "offending" party.
Peterson, are you aware that First Congo in Memphis is part of the United Church of Christ denomination?
(I know you know that this is where I have been attending the past month or so...)
It really is a church of misfits, and it feels so good to be at home with other people who have been shunned by the mainstream religious establishment.
I am a theatrical, performance, artist, a very queer and quirky Quaker, and an ex-gay survivor.
I've lived on four continents in my life and currently live in North America in Connecticut.
Que mas? Just read the blog baby and all will be revealed.
